This group is built on a strong conviction that Jesus wants us to know, care about and empower people living with disadvantage and marginalisation in our local and global communities.
In past years, we have been introduced to some of the Sudanese community in Melbourne’s East and facilitated regular Saturday afternoon ‘hang out’ spaces to build relationships and provide support to newly arrived young people who were at risk of social isolation, poor cultural adjustment and wanted to meet some locals. We have also supported Sudanese fundraising projects both financially and with time/skills and advocated for others through Amnesty letter writing and attendance at rallies.
At present our main regular commitments are:
- Organising of the English Conversation classes at East
- Continuing to build relationships and empowerment of others in our local community
- Organising fundraising events for projects or people of whom we become aware
- We hope to provide more regular contributions to Sunday night services in near future
