red is a group of Christian communities that seek to radically live out the Jesus-life in the city of Melbourne.
TEMPT is a way of expressing the values that lie at the heart of our movement. It stands for:
Together we follow,
Our promise : “We commit ourselves as the people of God to live an authentic expression of Christian community”
We realize that we are called to walk the journey of discipleship with others. God called his people to be the living proof of his kingdom on earth
Engagement with Scripture,
Our promise : “We commit ourselves to constantly engage with the Holy Scripture recognizing that it is our handbook for life” We choose to let the bible interpret us
We recognise that the bible is God’s word and we are committed to its study
We recognise that the bible is a book designed to be read in community
Mission,
Our promise : “We commit ourselves to join with God in his missionary endeavour to grow the Kingdom by sharing our faith, multiplying our communities, and welcoming strangers.” We believe that God’s heart aches to be in relationship with His lost creation therefore, we as his people feel compelled to communicate this love through our words and deeds, by bringing justice, showing mercy, and communicating the Gospel, with the world around us.
Passion for Jesus,
Our promise : “We commit ourselves to passionately reach out to Jesus as we respond to his love for us” We have experienced the radical love of Jesus and this fuels a passion within us to live out as his disciples in our everyday lives.
Transformation
Our promise : “We commit ourselves to walk the road of discipleship together and to become more like Jesus everyday” We are all called to follow Jesus and to strive towards growing more like the people he wants us to be. In a world of consumerism and self-interest we choose a different path. We chose to die to self in order to find true life in Jesus.
Leadership: As a general principle all leadership in the network is not to hinder but to help, not to control but to free, not to take in but to resource others to be all they are called to be. The network has a Board that oversees vision and ensures that financial and legal obligations are followed. There is also a Leadership council that facilitates the day-to-day running of the network.
Ultimately the desire of red is to see like-minded tribes, fulfil the dreams and imaginations of their own communities. We hold to common values, but their applications will be varied and wonderful. We desire to see many expressions, cultures, and styles expressed, and glory in the diversity of our network. We desire to see people reached with the message and reality of the kingdom of God, and the love of Christ.
red is the latest incarnation of what used to be called the South Melbourne Restoration Community. We are members of the Churches of Christ.
